A wintry night shot of an Iberia Douglas DC-8-50 at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport around Christmas 1969. The Spanish flag carrier began its DC-8 service in the early 1960’s and flew both the -50 and -63 versions for many years. After the retirement of these original aircraft in the early 1980’s, at least one DC-8-71 freighter was also operated for all-cargo work. Iberia was a major Douglas customer of both prop and jet aircraft including the DC-8, DC-9 and DC-10, as well as the earlier piston DC-2, DC-3 and DC-4.

  • VOLUNTEER AIRLINE COLLECTIBLES WRITERS WANTED!

The Captain’s Log, the online journal of the World Airline Historical Society (WAHS), is looking to add to its current roster of writers.

We need people who are knowledgeable on specific aspects of airline collecting including, but not limited to, dining service items, ticket jackets, timetables, airline-issue, scale, and kit aircraft models, marketing promos and brochures, swizzle sticks, books, etc. We are also open to pieces on other subjects relevant to the aviation hobby.

Articles should range from 150-500 words in length and must be sent to us with separate captioned photos/illustrations. We do not enforce a regular schedule for article submissions and topics are chosen by the writers themselves with final editorial approval prior to go ahead.

If you are interested in writing for the oldest, and only, publication dedicated exclusively to all aspects of airline collecting and history (founded in 1977) please send a one to two paragraph writing sample on a relevant topic via email to: fairchild227@gmail.com.

    Thanks and Happy Collecting!
